WATER COLOR

Watercolor is my medium of choice when I am traveling. I can carry all needed supplies: paint, brushes, paper towels, water, paper support, and garbage bag very easily in a backpack or a rolling carryon case. I also have a tiny Windsor-Newton travel packet of watercolor paint and brushes with slide off covers that become handles and can fit, with a small watercolor spiral pad in my purseor large pants pocket.

Watercolor allows for quick sketches in color and I can capture belly dancers in motion on the Main (at the sidewalk festival)  with a few quick strokes faster than with a pencil or charcoal. On Yupo (plastic paper) watercolor can be applied or easily lifted off for reapplication and this cannot be done with acrylic or oils in as easy a manner.

For quick portrait sketches to capture desired colors and shadows, watercolors are great. These sketches, along with resource photos provide material showing light effects when back painting in the studio.

Applied thinkly in a wash, I can achieve subtle and mysterious tones. Many layers of this type of glazing can achieve a bleeding through of color that can be captivating. Thicker application of watercolor can almost give the look of acrylic or oils.
